If you want a wedding venue that feels like a hidden gem but is still super easy to get to, Errol Park is the perfect choice. Located just under an hour from Edinburgh, between Perth and Dundee, this venue offers everything you could possibly want for a relaxed, fun-filled wedding day.

The grounds are absolutely stunning, with towering old trees, perfectly manicured lawns, and loads of little nooks and crannies that make for amazing photos. Whether you want an outdoor ceremony in the walled garden, a rustic shed with a laid-back feel, or the magical forest fort hidden among the trees, Errol Park has you covered. The backdrop of the River Tay adds a little extra magic to every moment.

The main house is this big traditional Scottish mansion that sleeps around 20 people really comfortably which is brilliant if you want to have close family and friends staying on-site with you. I love that you can have a bit of a party the night before or just spend some proper quality time with your nearest and dearest without having to worry about everyone heading off to different hotels. It’s especially great if you’ve got grandparents or parents who’d love to be right there with you for the whole experience.

Then for the wedding breakfast and evening reception, you head over to the stables which have been converted into this amazing circular barn space. There’s a proper little traditional pub built into the stables which always goes down well with guests and the courtyard in the middle is brilliant for keeping everyone together. It’s got these big roaring fire pits too which are perfect if you’re getting married in autumn or winter and want that cosy atmosphere in the evening.

From a photographer’s point of view, Errol Park is a dream because you don’t need to go far for amazing photos. Every corner of the grounds is stunning so we can just wander around and find the perfect spots without dragging you away from the party for too long. The staff here are also brilliant. They know exactly what they’re doing and make sure everything runs smoothly so you can just relax and enjoy the day without worrying about a thing.

Honestly, Errol Park is my favourite wedding venue in Scotland and I’m not just saying that because I got married there myself in 2021. It’s got everything you could want from a venue but still feels really personal and customisable to whatever kind of wedding you’re planning. Whether you’re after a big party with all your friends and family or a more intimate day with just your closest people, it’s an incredible place to tie the knot.

2. Teasses Estate, Fife

Teasses Estate is just over an hour from Edinburgh, tucked away near Ceres in Fife, and it is one of those venues that people are always surprised by. It is set in the middle of a gorgeous Scottish country estate, with views that stretch across colourful gardens and out over the rolling countryside beyond.

The standout feature here is the Victorian greenhouse that sits proudly on a small hill overlooking the gardens. For bigger weddings, this works brilliantly as a drinks reception area. If you’re planning something more intimate, you can actually host your entire wedding in the greenhouse, from the ceremony through to the evening reception. The glass ceiling means you get loads of natural light, which is a photographer's dream, and the views across the garden are just incredible.

If you’ve got a big guest list, Teasses also has a permanent marquee on-site, which is perfect for dinner and dancing. The space is adaptable, so you can decorate it however you like to suit your vibe. The gardens here are unreal too. The flowers are in full bloom throughout the summer months, creating an incredible backdrop for both the wedding day itself and the photos afterward. If you’re after that laid-back garden party feel without having to travel too far from the city, Teasses Estate is definitely worth a look.

What I love most about Teasses Estate is how simple and beautiful it is. It doesn’t feel overdone or too polished but everything just feels right. The flowers and gardens bring so much colour and character and in the summer especially it’s got this laid-back atmosphere where your guests can spill out from the greenhouse onto the patio with a drink in hand while taking in the views. It’s just one of those places that feels effortlessly stunning and makes for such a relaxed and beautiful wedding day.

3. Cormiston Farm, Biggar

Cormiston Farm sits just outside Biggar, right in the heart of the Borders countryside. It is only about 50 minutes from Edinburgh, but when you arrive, it feels like you are a million miles away from anywhere.

What makes Cormiston Farm really stand out is that it’s not a typical wedding venue. It’s a family home and you can feel that from the minute you arrive. It’s run by the loveliest family who will absolutely take care of you from start to finish and if you’re looking for a wedding venue where you’ll feel really looked after, this is the one. Price-wise, I think it’s incredible value too which is always a bonus.

There’s a really charming Scottish house on-site where you can get ready in the morning and stay overnight and it’s surrounded by nothing but countryside which just adds to the relaxed vibe. The outdoor ceremony space is gorgeous with views over the hills of the Borders that make for such an epic backdrop while you say your vows. Then there’s the rustic converted barn out the back which is a brilliant surprise. It’s got this lovely traditional pub built into it which always goes down well with guests and the long, narrow barn space is perfect for dinner, drinks and dancing. It’s got that cosy, rustic feel that’s just spot on for a laid-back wedding.

One of the things I love most about Cormiston Farm is that it’s not a big commercial wedding venue. It’s not in every wedding magazine or all over Instagram and I think that makes it feel even more special. Because they don’t have weddings every weekend, it really feels like the place is yours for the whole weekend and your guests will feel so relaxed. You can really put your own stamp on the place too because the barn is basically a blank canvas for you to decorate however you want and they let you bring in your own suppliers which is brilliant. You can have lawn games out on the grass during your drinks reception or bring in your favourite caterers. One of my favourite weddings here had a barbecue going out the back with smoked meats being served up all day and it was genuinely some of the best wedding food I’ve ever had.

I’ll be honest, Cormiston Farm doesn’t have the flashiest website and the photos online don’t do it justice but trust me when I say it’s an absolute gem. Every couple I’ve photographed here has said the same thing and it’s one of those places that people don’t shout about but once you’ve been, you just get it. If you’re after a wedding venue in Scotland that’s full of charm, run by lovely people and gives you the freedom to do things your way, Cormiston Farm is definitely worth checking out.

4. The Free Company, Balerno

The Free Company is just 20 minutes from Edinburgh, but the second you turn down the farm track and pull up outside, it feels like you’ve left the city miles behind. It’s set on a working farm, surrounded by greenhouses, artichoke fields, and those winding little country lanes that make you want to slow down and take a deep breath. The whole vibe here is laid-back, welcoming, and totally unpretentious. It’s one of those venues that just feels like a warm hug when you arrive, and it’s easily one of the best farm wedding venues near Edinburgh.

What makes The Free Company really special is the food. The owners started out running a farm-to-table restaurant, and that passion for good food still runs through everything they do. All the ingredients are grown right there on the farm or sourced from nearby suppliers, which means the food is always seasonal, fresh, and packed with flavour. And we’re not talking about your standard wedding fare here. I still dream about their fried bread canapés, cooked in pork fat and topped with caramelised onions and gooey melted cheese. I’m not exaggerating when I say it’s the best canapé I’ve ever had at a wedding, and if you’re vegetarian or vegan, don’t worry—they absolutely nail those menus too. No sad mushroom risottos here. This focus on incredible, locally-sourced food makes it one of the best wedding venues for food lovers near Edinburgh.

The wedding ceremony usually takes place in the courtyard, which is part open, part undercover. It’s got that lovely mix of rustic charm and cosy farm vibes, with wooden benches laid out for your guests and the greenhouse peeking through in the background. And from a photographer's perspective, this place is an absolute dream. We don’t have to go anywhere for incredible photos because everywhere you look, there’s something cool. We can stroll through the artichoke fields, wander along the tree-lined paths, or even nip into the greenhouse to snap a few candid shots with the tomatoes hanging from the vines. Honestly, I reckon I could shoot an entire wedding here without taking the same photo twice. When it’s time for dinner and dancing, everyone moves into the barn. It’s long and narrow, with exposed wooden beams, stone walls, and big farmhouse tables that make the whole thing feel more like a big family dinner than a formal wedding meal. The ceilidh dancing in here is always wild. That narrow barn layout makes strip the willow even more fun as couples fly up and down the dancefloor, grabbing partners as they go. 5. Neidpath Castle, Scottish Borders

A authentic and historic castle less than an hour from Edinburgh?

Neidpath Castle in Peebles is honestly one of the most incredible venues I’ve been to. It towers over the River Tweed, surrounded by trees with the river winding its way below, and the whole place just feels like something out of a movie. It’s less than an hour from Edinburgh too, so really easy for you and your guests to get to without losing that feeling of being in the middle of nowhere.

What I love most about Neidpath Castle is how real it feels. It’s not one of those overly polished venues that’s been modernised to within an inch of its life. This place is the real deal. It’s dark, it’s moody, it’s full of character, and if you’re looking for an authentic Scottish castle wedding, this is it. Just a heads-up though, the spiral staircases here are some of the steepest and most treacherous I’ve ever tackled, so maybe not one for stilettos, but honestly, it all adds to the charm.

The ceremony space is unreal with little pockets of light streaming in through tiny windows which makes for some absolutely gorgeous portraits. There are so many little nooks and crannies where you can sneak off for photos too, like sitting on old stone windowsills or finding cosy corners that feel like they’ve been there for hundreds of years because, well, they have. It’s one of those places that just oozes history from every corner and you can feel it all around you.

The rooms are beautiful too with traditional old bedrooms, log fires roaring away, and the kind of atmosphere that makes you feel like you’ve stepped back in time. If you stay overnight, you’ll wake up in a four-poster bed with the fire still crackling away in the corner, and to top it off, Mary, Queen of Scots apparently stayed here too which is pretty cool. The staff at Neidpath Castle are brilliant and really know how to make everything run smoothly without making the day feel too formal or forced.

From a photographer’s point of view, Neidpath Castle is a dream venue. There are so many stunning spots inside the castle, and outside is just as impressive with the castle towering over the river. If you’re up for it, we can take a walk down to the River Tweed for some breathtaking shots with the castle in the background. Honestly, it’s one of those places where every corner feels like a perfect photo waiting to happen.

If you’re after a wedding venue that’s packed with history, feels totally authentic, and gives you that proper Scottish castle wedding vibe, Neidpath Castle is hard to beat. It’s moody, atmospheric, full of character, and one of the most unique places you could ever get married in Scotland.

6. Kirknewton House Stables

If you’re looking for a wedding venue close to Edinburgh that still feels like you’re tucked away in the countryside, Kirknewton Stables is an absolute gem. It’s less than 25 minutes from the city centre and right next to Edinburgh Airport which makes it super handy for any guests flying in but once you’re there, it feels like a world away from the hustle and bustle.

What I love about Kirknewton Stables is how it mixes that rustic charm with a bit of elegance. It’s a refurbished old stable block with exposed stone walls, stripped wooden floors, and so much character but it’s also got the most pristine and beautifully manicured gardens I’ve ever seen. There’s a stunning traditional Scottish house on-site where you can get ready and the library is such a lovely spot for those calm pre-wedding moments and some gorgeous getting-ready photos before you take a short stroll around the corner to the stables for your ceremony and reception.

The venue is a proper blank canvas which means you can really make it your own. Whether you’re going for a full-on DIY wedding with all the little personal touches or you want to keep it simple and let the rustic charm of the space do the talking, Kirknewton Stables is perfect for both. The gardens are unreal with orchards, greenhouses, sheds, and these incredible old trees that make every corner of the estate feel like a photographer’s dream. Honestly, you don’t need to go anywhere else for wedding photos because everything you need is right there and the backdrop is stunning no matter where you turn.

The staff at Kirknewton Stables are brilliant too. They’re so efficient and know exactly what they’re doing but they also keep everything relaxed which just adds to that chilled-out vibe that makes the day feel easy and fun. It’s an exclusive-use venue as well which means you and your guests get the whole place to yourselves and that always makes the day feel even more special.

Whether you’re planning a small, intimate wedding or a big party with all your friends and family, Kirknewton Stables is flexible enough to suit whatever you’ve got in mind. The location makes it easy for everyone to get to but once you’re there, it feels like you’ve escaped to a peaceful little countryside retreat. 7. Dunglass Estate

Dunglass Estate is less than an hour from Edinburgh and offers one of the most unique ceremony spaces in Scotland. It is set along the beautiful East Lothian coast, giving you the perfect combination of sea views and countryside charm.

The real star of the show here is the semi-ruined Gothic church that sits in the heart of the estate. It’s such a unique space to have your wedding ceremony because you get that traditional church feel with the high stone walls and open arches but it’s not actually a registered religious building which means you can have a humanist ceremony there too. I love that mix of old and new and it’s perfect if you want a ceremony that feels a bit more personal and relaxed while still holding on to a bit of history. It’s also just a stunning spot to say your vows whether it’s a sunny summer’s day or even in the middle of winter with guests wrapped up in blankets and huddled together which makes for such a cosy and unforgettable atmosphere.

After the ceremony, Dunglass Estate has an amazing reception space that works just as well for big weddings as it does for smaller ones. The main pavilion is modern and full of natural light thanks to the huge glass windows and it’s beautifully kept with loads of space for dinner and dancing. There’s also a separate area for your drinks reception and a gorgeous courtyard at the back that’s lit up with festoon lights in the evening which adds such a lovely atmosphere to the night. Everything about the venue is immaculate and well looked after which really helps make the day feel even more special.

Another thing I love about Dunglass Estate is that there’s accommodation on-site which means you and your guests can stay over and make a full weekend of it if you want to. Every wedding I’ve shot here has turned into one big party and it’s just brilliant seeing everyone properly let loose and enjoy themselves. From a photography point of view, there are so many amazing spots for photos around the estate too and the best part is we don’t have to go far so you can spend more time enjoying your day with your guests and less time away getting photos.

Honestly, Dunglass Estate is one of those wedding venues in Scotland that just ticks all the boxes. It gives you the flexibility to really put your own stamp on things but also has so much charm and character built in already. It’s the perfect blend of old and new and whether you’re planning a big party or a more intimate day, it’s an incredible place to tie the knot.

8. Dundas Castle, Edinburgh

Dundas Castle is just a 20-minute drive from Edinburgh Airport, but when you arrive, it feels like you are a million miles away from the city. The castle sits proudly at the end of a long driveway, and the grounds stretch out around it, giving you that proper fairytale castle experience.

Honestly, Dundas Castle has everything you could ever want from a Scottish castle wedding venue. It’s exclusive use which means you and your guests get the whole castle to yourselves for the entire time you’re there and the ceremony options are just unreal. You can get married inside the grand entrance hall which is perfect if you love that classic castle vibe or you can say your vows outside in the courtyard or the gardens which are always immaculate. My personal favourite though has to be the old keep. You head up this winding staircase that feels straight out of a fairytale and end up in the medieval tower where there’s a great hall with stone walls and candles everywhere. It’s honestly one of the most romantic ceremony spots I’ve ever seen but if that’s not your thing, the grounds and gardens are just as stunning for an outdoor ceremony too.

If you’re thinking of having your family stay with you at Dundas Castle, you’ve got to make a weekend of it. The staff here are incredible and they can organise everything from Highland games and bagpiping sessions to traditional Scottish hammer throwing, ceilidh dancing, whisky tastings, and even bagpipe lessons if you’re up for giving it a go. Whatever you’ve got in mind, they’ll make it happen and you can just trust that they’ll take care of everything so you can relax and enjoy it all.

The food at Dundas Castle is top-notch too and the on-site accommodation is amazing with 17 gorgeous bedrooms for you and your guests to stay in. The grounds stretch for miles and there are llamas. Yes, actual llamas wandering around the estate which is always a fun little bonus and a guaranteed talking point for your guests. From a photographer’s point of view, this place is a dream because there are so many spots for photos without even having to leave the venue. Whether it’s the castle itself, the gardens, the grounds, or even hanging out with the llamas, you’ll be spoilt for choice.
