Hidden River Barn - Jenny + James

When Jenny and James first got in touch I knew straight away that we were going to get on like a house on fire.

Together we share a love and appreciation of nature, of the outdoors, of mountains, of skiing, of Chamonix, of camping and of campfires. So when they told me they were looking for a relaxed photographer to come along for the ride and to join them for their informal log cabin and rustic barn wedding in the middle of the countryside just north of the Lake District in Cumbria I absolutely jumped at the chance.

And, their wedding did not disappoint!

A relaxed and calm morning with James and his groomsmen toasting the day with a glass of whisky in Hidden River’s stunning log cabins. Jenny getting ready in her childhood home surrounded by her family and friends before a short drive in her dad’s classic MG convertible to their local church.

As always, I got to know Jenny and James so well before their wedding day that photographing their traditional church wedding left me chuffed to bits and a wee bit emotional too. (I’m a big softie deep down!)

After their ceremony I captured on of my favourite confetti throws to day. A huge amount of confetti, thrown aggressively into the couples faces leaving them happily spluttering and squinting with laughter. All sealed with a confetti covered kiss at the end too!

I've been lucky enough to photograph some pretty incredible wedding venues in my time. But some do really stand out as extra special.

Hidden River Barn is a collection of incredible Canadian style log cabins and then one huge, rustic and spectacular barn.

Having the cabins on site as well as such a stunning barn venue creates the most chilled out, relaxed vibes. With plenty of space, lots of light inside (something that most barn weddings struggle with) and perfect for taking epic wedding photographs inside. Normally I love to capture group photos outside but when the spring sunset started to stream through the barn's giant window bathing a spectacular brick fireplace in golden light I knew we had to use that instead and boy was it worth it.

After dinner Jenny and James' friend sure knew how to throw a party. Firstly Jenny was kidnapped by a group of groomsmen and launched in to the air and luckily, successfully caught on the way down. Then on to cutting a ski, log cabin, pine tree themed wedding cake, a chaotic and magical packed dance dancefloor and even an apres ski themed, personalised shot ski!
